Questionnaire Feedback answers

The Majoryity of people that answered my questionnaires gave me some postive feedback which i can use for my ideas and editing.

The first being how important the music is when seeing scarey and successful and horror film tariler can be.
Also the main amount of people said most horror films are either 15 or 18 age ratings, and my main audience would be males, around 18-30

They also made it clear that there has to be one point in the trailer that will entise the viewer into to watching the real film, making it entertaining, whilst not reveling to much about the storyline.

Shaun Of The Dead Trailer

Shaun of the dead was a good British film and has some elements that seem are the same as my ideas. They are both horror films, however Shaun of the dead is clearly meant to be a lot more comical. This isn't what i want to do, so with the camera shots and acting i chose and put in, combined with the editing i need to keep it a traditional horror film trailer, much like Will Smiths I Am Legend.

Which i will look into the trailer of later as it has so many similarites to my ideas. I will also look at it for the bennifits of camera shots and editing which will be discussed during the post.

Lesson Diary 2

Once our group of 2 had collected our random camera footage of different shots thrown together we than began refreshing our memories of Adobe. We started editing the piece of film so it started to look more and more like a teaser trailer.

This task was incredible helpful as it have me a more in depth understand of what was expected of my trailer this year.

Lesson Diary

In one of the more recent lessons we started getting similar with the media equipment again. This was a huge help as it had been so long since we looked at the camera, also the school had got new cameras so it was a massive help getting familiar with them.

We briefly went around the school and started to get to refresh our selves of last years basics, using the cameras and choosing different shots for different affects.

The Last Seven - Film Trailer

This is a 'Newish' film that has had a lot of views on youtube. After watching this trailer many times over i think its one of the better ones ive seen when speaking about content. I believe the trailer is very good at setting the scene gradually and keeps you on the edge of your seat, which is essential for any horror film and trailer.

The analysis of this trailer has started to broden my ideas, i wanted to show the main character all alone but was unsure of how to start it. Watichng this film trailer pacifically has given me many new ideas. I will also add editing and between the cut either a voice over of something for a very brief and shallow incite of the storyline.

This trailer has also given me the idea of keeping the main characters to a minimum as it will add to the affect of the person being 'completely' alone.

When i started to analysis and think about camera angles/shots it became clear there was a lot of master and long shots, and also a point of view shot being combined with a high angle shot. so it give the idea of somebody being watched.

Location ideas continued.

I will need many different locations for my trailer as will need to use fast editing cutting from shot to shot without giving to much away, as is typical for the horror genre.

I will also be doing my filming mainly ever early in the morning, initial thoughts of round 5-6 AM.
This will ensure there are less people around so i will have the feel of the main character all lone.
This will also give the scarey eerie affect common in most horror films.

Location Ideas

In trailer, compared to the two minute openings of last year there need to be a lot more variation in locations

When starting to film at certain loactions for different times i will have to make sure there is nobody else around to ruin the mise-en-sence for the horror genre.

Horror PowerPoint.

This is my PowerPoint of geral things i must think of for my trailer.

Final Genre ideas

Over the past few days ive started to become more decisive in picking whether to do a horror trailer or an action/gangster trailer.

I will upload a PowerPoint on my final decision.

The Usual Suspects - Trailer - HQ

Based on my work last year another film genre i was looking into was crime/gangster films. When working one our two minute opening last year a good understanding started to develop of this genre. However after looking into it the genre there are idea that i started thinking of so i began to draw up comparisons.
Im still undecided what genre my trailer will be.

Film ideas

After thinking about a few ideas, Horror and Action Gangster films are the ones I watch and enjoy and also powerful trailer that make me want to watch the film. Im undicided whether to make a Horror film Trailer, this is because i enjoy the films and the trailer can be incredible powerful if made well.

Or an Action film Trailer for most of the same reasons.

In my next few blogs i will firstly be used to make my final decision then to begin the early research into the film genre when looking at trailers and teaser trailer, and also start to put preliminary ideas together.

28 Days Later (Movie Trailer). Comparison With Teaser.

There are already strong differences between the two different types of trailer, much more of the storyline is revealed when looking at the movie trailer as there are voice overs of dialogue from the film. This makes the audience have some basic idea of what the films about. Also where some of the key aspects are the same such as the words flashing up from scene to scene, the content is a lot different as it has to fit the voice overs, there are also very sort clips for the real film.

There are also thing that are needed in horror film that i need to begin thinking out, fast editing, dark colours and music to fit.

28 Days Later Official Teaser Trailer

This is the teaser trailer for 28 days later, its a film that has a similar genre to the one thats first in my thoughts for my own trailer. Im thinking into a horror film as they are the ones  i watch the most of and enjoy.
Also when looking into what makes this teaser trailer effective it is a number for different things, at more than half the time its very dark coloured. There is also a lot of emphasis and different words in comparison to others.
for example the word 'infection' and 'exposure' all paint the same picture in a horror film trailer. It already makes the audience on edge and the emphasis on certain word adds great effecting in cutting from scene to scene.
Also there are many idea that i have for my trailer that are in this one. I think parts showing a deserted London with one confused person wandering helplessly adds a lot of mystery and suspense.
There are also aspects of a teaser trailer that are different to a normal one such as, they are generally shorter, don't give away much of the plot which adds to the mysterious nature of films like horror and they are normally showed before the actual trailer in order to gain publicity

Magazine front cover Analysis

Other than the actual trailer and the Poster, a magazine front cover is the last ancillary text used in a combination to advertise our films to our target audience.
Again my main inspiration for my film is I am Legend.

The front cover again shows the text is very important to grab the attention of the selected target audience. The text and colour make us firstly aware of the front cover, then the recognisable figure of Will Smith shows us that its a big blockbuster film, which is shown by the way its an Empire magazine.

It also has many other aspects thats are recognisable to the target audience, such as the other things advertised on the front of the film. Which i need to take in thinking when making my own cover.

Poster Research

One of the tasks for our finished media is too create a film poster and magazine front cover, advertising our film to the target audience.
I am Legend is the main film that i would like to base mine on. The key aspects of this poster is that the text and style is very much associated with the genre of the film.
The poster also makes use that Will Smith is the main focus of our attention.
It then shows us a destroyed American city, which firstly grabs our attention, and then makes us very curious of what the storyline could be about.
There is also a big of text and a slogan that is associated with the film making it recognisable to the target audience.
